DIY Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant Dupe...That's really nothing like it.

I ran out of exfoliant in quarantine. On my list of worst things to run out of, this ranks in the top 10, just under food, coffee, and episodes of Who's the boss...Anyone know where I can watch season 3???

If you don't already know, I'm a CA licensed esthetician (since 2007) so rest assured, I only recommend things that I would use on my own skin and this is one I've been whipping up for the last year. Since we are all stuck at home with time to DIY, and finances are tight for many people, I thought I'd share this with you!

My go to for a gentle physical exfoliant is Eminence's Strawberry Rhubarb dermafoliant, and it was the inspiration behind this powder. Unlike exfoliants made from things like apricot pits, which just scratch the surface of your skin causing micro tears, rice powder sort of melts into your skin, gently sweeping the dead skin cells from the surface.

I added green tea powder to smooth out the overall texture further and add some antioxidants, along with just a bit of pure vitamin C powder to add a brightening effect.

INGRIDIENTS:

1/2 cup dry rice (or just under 1/2 cup when ground)

1 tbsp matcha powder

1/2 tsp vitamin c powder

INSTRUCTIONS:

Grind rice into a fine powder. I like to do this with a coffee grinder a few times and sift several times to remove any big particles. TRULY, the secret is in the sift. I sometimes sift mine up to 5 times to make sure it's as fine as possible. The finer your sifter, the better your results will be. Remember, the texture will feel more abrasive on your face so it should feel almost like flour in your hands.

Add in the matcha green tea powder and vitamin C (I recommend sifting this as well, as vitamin C tends to clump together.) Whisk everything together and add to a shaker jar!

Make sure that you store your powder in a cool, dry place, OUTSIDE of the shower. Moisture can lead to clumping and breed bacteria.
